WCHDMI20-200 is a 2-meter HDMI® cable which supports up to 4K60Hz with a maximum bandwidth of 18Gbps. The cable connects televisions, projectors or monitors with Blu-Ray players, gaming consoles and other HDMI® equipment.

Essential Considerations for Choosing an HDMI® Cable

An HDMI cable is more than just a connection between your audiovisual devices—it’s the foundation of a high-quality entertainment experience. Whether you're a home user or a professional AV system integrator, selecting the right HDMI cable is crucial to ensuring seamless performance.

HDMI® is an audiovisual transmission cable commonly used to connect TVs, monitors, and source devices such as computers and Blu-ray players.

Understanding HDMI Versions and Certifications

HDMI Versions

  • HDMI 1.4: Supports 4K at 30Hz
  • HDMI 2.0: Supports 4K at 60Hz
  • HDMI 2.1: Supports up to 8K at 60Hz and even 10K at 120Hz

When selecting an HDMI cable, ensure it matches your device’s HDMI version for optimal compatibility.

Certification Labels

  • Premium HDMI Cable: Designed for HDMI 2.0, guaranteeing higher resolution and richer colors.
  • Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable: Meets HDMI 2.1 standards, ensuring high bandwidth for 8K video and higher refresh rates.

How to Identify Your HDMI Version and Supported Resolution

HDMI Standards Resolution Supported HDMI Certification Cable
HDMI 1.3
HDMI 1.4
1080p (1920x1080) @ 60Hz
4K (3840x2160) @ 30Hz
High Speed HDMI Cable
HDMI 2.0 4K (3840x2160) @ 60Hz Premium  HDMI Cable
HDMI 2.1 8K (7680x4320) @ 60Hz,
4K @ 120Hz
Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable
  • HDMI 1.3 and 1.4 share the same certification label (High-Speed HDMI Cable), but HDMI 1.4 includes additional feature support.
  • Premium HDMI Cable is certified for HDMI 2.0, ensuring support for higher resolutions and enhanced color depth.
  • Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable is certified for HDMI 2.1, supporting higher bandwidth, 8K video, and increased refresh rates.

The WCHDMI20-200 is a Premium HDMI Cable with reliable performance with 4K resolution, HDR and ARC.

HDMI Cable Length and Quality

  • HDMI Cable Length Limit: HDMI signal stability can degrade over long distances. If your cable exceeds 50 ft (15m), consider using signal boosters, repeaters, or other extension technologies such as fiber optic or Ethernet cable extenders to maintain audio and video quality.
  • Material and Cable Quality: Copper cables work well for standard distances, while fiber optic cables offer superior long-distance transmission with minimal signal loss.

The WCHDMI20-200 is a 6.6 ft (2m) HDMI cable made with high-quality copper wiring.

Technical Aspects for AV Integrators

  • Bend Radius & Flexibility: Professional AV installers should consider cable flexibility, especially for permanent installations or frequent reconfigurations.
  • Interference Shielding: HDMI cables are sensitive to electromagnetic interference. Choosing shielded cables is essential for complex AV setups.

Bandwidth Requirements

Different HDMI standards support varying bandwidth capacities, impacting audio and video transmission quality. HDMI 2.1 provides up to 48Gbps, enabling resolutions like 8K at 60Hz or 4K at 120Hz.

HDR & Color Depth

  • HDR Support: High Dynamic Range (HDR) enhances color and brightness. Ensure your HDMI cable supports HDR to maximize the potential of your 4K or 8K display.
  • Color Depth: Professional applications, such as video editing, may require 10-bit or 12-bit color depth. Your HDMI cable should accommodate these advanced formats.

eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel)

For high-quality audio transmission, eARC allows lossless audio formats like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X to be sent from a TV to a sound system. Ensure your HDMI cable supports eARC if needed.

ARC version HDMI version Audio format
ARC HDMI 1.3a, 1.4, 2.0 Dolby Digital、DTS
eARC HDMI 2.1 Dolby Atmos、DTS:X

Additional Features to Consider

  • Connector Design: Compact connectors are essential for tight spaces behind AV equipment.
  • Durability: Opt for high-quality cables with reinforced connectors, especially if they’ll be frequently plugged and unplugged.

SC&T HDMI cables have been widely used by AV professionals to solve common integration challenges, ensuring reliability in demanding environments.

Many AV connectivity issues stem from HDMI cables. Loose connections, poor shielding, or low-quality materials can lead to troubleshooting headaches. Choosing a certified, high-quality HDMI cable ensures stable, high-definition audio and video transmission, reducing unnecessary downtime in AV installations.

When selecting an HDMI cable, consider both technical specifications and your specific usage scenario. Home users benefit from a better viewing experience, while AV integrators can deliver professional-grade, reliable installations that enhance their reputation and service quality.

Video Quality Drops When Using an HDMI Cable Longer Than 15 Meters

HDMI signals may weaken over long distances, leading to reduced video quality. Here are some solutions:

  • Use active HDMI cables, which have built-in signal boosters.
  • Use an HDMI extender or converter (e.g., HDMI over Ethernet or fiber optic extenders) to maintain signal quality over long distances.
  • Use an HDMI repeater to boost the signal and extend the transmission range.

HDMI 1.4 Cable Doesn’t Display 4K Video Properly

HDMI 1.4 cables support 4K at 30Hz, but if your device or content requires a higher refresh rate, you may experience instability. To fix this:

  • Check if your device also only supports HDMI 1.4.
  • If your device supports HDMI 2.0 or higher, upgrade to a higher-spec HDMI cable for better performance.

Screen Flickering or “Snow” on Display

Screen flickering or snow (static noise) can be caused by several factors:

  • Poor-quality or damaged cable: Try using another high-quality HDMI cable to test.
  • Loose connection: Ensure the HDMI plug is fully inserted into the port.
  • Electromagnetic interference: Check the cable's shielding and avoid placing it alongside power cables.
  • HDCP issues: If you see snow-like static, it could be an HDCP-related problem. Make sure all connected devices (including the HDMI cable) support HDCP. For more details, refer to What Is HDCP? What Causes and How to Fix HDCP Errors.

No Sound After Connecting HDMI Cable
  • Check your device settings and ensure the audio output is set to HDMI.
  • Confirm whether your cable supports ARC (Audio Return Channel). If you’re trying to send audio from your TV to a sound system (e.g., a soundbar), both the device and HDMI cable must support ARC.
  • Try using a different HDMI port, as some ports may not support audio transmission on certain devices.

How do I choose a high-quality HDMI cable among so many brands?
  • Look for official HDMI certification labels, such as High-Speed, Premium HDMI Cable, or Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable.
  • Consider your specific needs, such as cable length, bandwidth requirements, and features like eARC.

Black Screen After HDMI Connection
  • Ensure all devices are powered on and the correct HDMI input source is selected.
  • It may be an HDMI handshake issue between devices. Try unplugging and restarting all connected devices.
  • Check for cable damage and try a different HDMI cable.
